We are all booked and confirmed to work together for your wedding day photography, woohoo! Now what?
One of the many facets of my job that I love soooo much is having the ability to work with my couples before their wedding day arrives! One of the ways I make that happen is by offering a complimentary engagement, or bridal boudoir photo shoot with each of my wedding day packages.
You might be saying “ehhhh bridal boudoir is not my thing“, “I’ll go with an engagement shoot”! Or meh…”We’re not really sure that an engagement photo shoot is for us“. Before you make a final decision, I’m going to give you some quick details (super quick recap also included!) on the benefits of each type of session that will help you choose which type of session will best suit your needs!
Engagement Photo Shoot
Is an engagement session right for you?
An engagement shoot is a fun way to spend some non-wedding planning time together as a couple while still celebrating your love for one another!
An engagement photo shoot will put you both in front of the camera before your wedding day and it’s also a great way to draw in personal details about your love story. For example, the location you choose to shoot your photos!! This can be anywhere from the university you both attended a local hot spot that you went to on your first date or even the park where you walk your dog together regularly. Choosing a location with a special meaning behind it will cement that moment for you (even if that moment has long since passed) and you can look back on it to re-tell the story of that location to everyone.
Another great benefit of going with an engagement photo shoot, and something I’m a huge fan of, is having the ability to print out and hang some gorgeous non-wedding day photos in your home!!
Then there’s that whole comfort level thing! If your wedding day is the first time that you’ll be in front of a camera AND somewhat intimate with your significant other in the presence of another person (hello lens in your face during your first kiss), then an engagement photo shoot is a HUGE precursor to breaking the ice before those moments.
An engagement photo shoot might be for you if:
- You are looking for some extra celebratory time together as a couple before the wedding
- Both you and your significant other are hoping to become more comfortable in front of the camera
- You are dying to have some gorgeous non-wedding day photos together to hang in your home.
Should you go with a bridal boudoir session?
Before you completely write off a Bridal Boudoir Session, I have to tell you that planning a Bridal Boudoir session is much different than preparing for any other type of portrait session!! Long gone are the days of ‘wearing something scantily clad’. A bridal boudoir session is all about ROMANCE, being creative, having fun, and make your biggest fairytale dreams come to life! Take the preconceived notions of boudoir, open the window, and let them fly away! What we are going to create together will be much more grand – think floral crowns, bridal gowns, bouquets, wedding day details like stationery, soft detailed images of your engagement ring – Bridal Boudoir is all about the art of subtle suggestion!
A bridal boudoir session can make you feel empowered, and much like an engagement photo shoot it also has the bonus of getting you to feel comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day, it can also be used as a wedding day gift for your fiance. It’s a great way to commemorate where you are right now in your life, and to capture your confidence! I can tell you from personal experience that having a Bridal Boudoir session is SO FREEING. Doesn’t sound that scary at all, does it?
Another huge bonus of choosing a boudoir session is this:
It is a great opportunity to also work with your Wedding Hair & Makeup Artist before your wedding day. They can come in and do your Bridal Preview Session which is a trial of your Hair and Makeup for your Wedding Day, and is often included in your Bridal Package! If it is not something they offer, they may provide you with a discounted trial session, or I can reach out to one of my many talented colleagues to find you the perfect hair & makeup artist for any look you are going for (yes, even if you are keeping it a little more natural!)
A bridal boudoir session might be for you if:
- You want to celebrate yourself, feel empowered & bring out your confidence
- You want to bring out your romantic side in front of the camera
- You want to gift photos from your session to your fiance
That’s my break down on engagement sessions versus bridal boudoir sessions! PS: if this post steered you in the direction of an engagement photo shoot then you will definitley wan tto check out my last post on preparing for your engagement photo shoot >> right here!!
